Throughout the years of being on the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading squad, I've gained a lot of great nutritional information. I thought it would be a great idea to share with you all the diet tips and tricks I've learned to live by - Not only to get ready for calendar shoots or squad photos, but to look and feel great on a day-to-day basis.
Let's start with the most important meal of the day, BREAKFAST! Simple and fast - eat a good size bowl of cereal (whomever said a cup was a serving size, was playing a joke on the world.) Try Raisin Bran, Special K, or whatever you like that's good for you. Sorry... no Lucky Charms! Remember to use Skim or 1% milk.
Three hours later, enjoy a mid-morning snack; grab a hand full of almonds, or an apple or orange and snack away. Three hours later, its lunch time, YEAH!!! If you're on the go for lunch this is perfect for you - stop by Chick-fil-A and get a grilled chicken sandwich, cup of fruit and a bottle of water. If that's not going to work for you, Wendy's has great grilled chicken salads, but ask for light dressing. Finally, it is almost time for our favorite meal . . . Dinner. (However, if two to three hours after lunch you are feeling super hungry, remember an apple a day, will keep the doctor away!!) For dinner, I really love salmon or tilapia. If you are not a huge fish fan, chicken works just as well - just 6 oz. of chicken or fish and 6 oz. of mixed veggies is what you will eat. I know we all get those midnight hunger attacks, so if you get hungry, drink a glass of water. Then 30 minutes later, if you are still hungry, grab a handful of almonds, an apple or an orange and get to bed. You'll wake up feeling great!
Remember water is your best friend; drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I love to count water bottles - four 16 oz. bottles a day and you're on your way to feeling and looking great. The best part of this diet is you take the weekends off. Saturday and Sunday are your days to have that bowl of Ice cream or piece of chocolate cake. But, be sure to jump right back into eating healthy again on Monday.
For exercise during the week get in 20 to 30 minutes of cardio at least 2-3 times a week. If you want to go big, try a new class at the gym -kickboxing is my favorite!
Always remember if you are not eating you're hurting yourself more than helping yourself! Always try to get in 5 or 6 small meals and/or snacks a day.
Now it's time to get shopping! Stop by the store and try out these tips for a week! Make sure to let me know what works for you and what doesn't. Not all diets are for everyone, so keep that in mind.
